Is Liposuction A Fat Removal Surgery ?

Liposuction is a medical procedure that aims to remove fat from your body through suction. During the removal process, small, blunt tubes are inserted in the body through tiny cuts made on the skin. The fat that is suctioned out is from specific fat deposit areas of the body such as hips and thighs. It is an outpatient procedure that can be done in a hospital or doctor’s office with the right equipment. An overnight stay is not required unless a large volume of fat is being suctioned. Local anesthesia can be used in some cases.

In the recent years, new techniques have been developed. They include; tumescent, laser-assisted and ultrasound-assisted liposuction. These techniques are less painful and safer than older ones.

Post-treatment expectations

After the treatment is completed, the area is wrapped in tape or elastic bandages to reduce swelling and pain. Patients are to expect swelling and bruising for up to 10 days after the procedure. Fluid drains from the incisions for several days after treatment. Therefore, antibiotics may need to be prescribed to reduce the risk of getting infected. Most people are able to resume their daily activities after the procedure. If the area treated was large, the recovery takes longer.

Why do it?

The main point of liposuction in Houston is reshaping parts of the body, not the reduction of body weight. It is mostly used on the body parts that do not respond to exercise and diet. Such areas include the back and waist on men and the hips and thighs on women. It can also be used to treat other medical conditions including excessive sweating and benign fatty tumors. This procedure can be used in combination with other plastic surgery procedures such as breast reduction and facelifts. This medical treatment cannot be used to get rid of stretch marks and cellulite.
