What to Expect During AFT Laser Treatments

AFT laser treatments are best for treating small to medium sized spider veins. However, a plastic surgeon may recommend various other treatments to get the best results. Your treatment plan will be customized based on the condition of your spider veins and will be discussed with you prior to treatment.

As with any type of laser treatment, many people are unsure of what to expect throughout the process. The clinic that is performing your AFT laser treatment should go over the procedure in detail so you understand what they are doing and why they are doing it. However, knowing each type of varicose vein treatment is best to help you decide which one you would like to do.

During your AFT laser treatment session, a cosmetic surgeon will use a high-dosage pulsating laser and aim it at the area where the spider veins that are to be removed. Your tissue is not affected by the light. Instead, it is absorbed by the veins causing the blood in the vein to boil. Some lasers cause the vein to collapse or burst, which shuts down and removes the spider vein.

Patients who have had laser spider vein treatments compare the pain to being snapped with a rubber band or to a sunburn. Upon your request, your cosmetic surgeon may have a cooling gel so you are more comfortable throughout the procedure. It takes about five weeks for larger veins to shut down while smaller veins may be removed immediately after treatment.

AFT laser treatments typically work better with veins that are close to the surface of the leg. Patients often see better results with removing spider veins in the face with AFT laser treatments. It is best to speak with a cosmetic surgeon in Houston about your spider veins to determine which treatment is best for you. Contact us today for more details.
